Geotechnical and Environmental Research Group

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment (FIBE-CDT) in Cambridge University is currently looking to recruit talented students for a number of fully funded studentships to carry out cutting edge research within a broad range of both core and interdisciplinary civil engineering topics. Successful applicants will join an innovative model of doctoral education focused on cohort-based training.

The MRes+ PhD programme is structured as a 1 year MRes + 3 year PhD. You will undertake training in both core civil engineering subjects and specialist modules to develop your research interests and prepare you for your PhD studies. The MRes programme is designed to allow you to explore your interests through labs, courses, group projects and involvement with
industry partners.

The I+ Programme combines industry experience with cutting edge research in civil engineering, delivered in collaboration with a range of top-tier contractors and industry consultants. Successful applicants will spend 1 year working with an industry partner, prior to starting the 1 year MRes + 3 year PhD programme at the FIBE CDT at the University of Cambridge. The salary during the year in industry will be provided by the I+ partner.

The FIBE-CDT's research and training activities focus on integrating Cambridge's internationally recognised strength in structures, geotechnics, materials, construction, sustainable development, building physics and water and waste within the wider context of related engineering disciplines, architecture, the sciences, land economy, manufacturing, business, economics, policy and social science, and also includes entrepreneurial training delivered in collaboration with the Judge Business School.
A number of fully funded EPSRC FIBE CDT studentships, which cover both fees and a taxfree stipend (currently set at £14,553 per annum), are currently available for students meeting the EPSRC funding requirements for UK residency. Fees only studentships are available for students meeting EU residency requirements. Students may also be eligible for other sources
of funding.

While applications are considered on a rolling basis, early application is strongly encouraged.
