Charles studied engineering at Christ's College, Cambridge and after specialising in civil engineering he graduated in 2009 with a Masters in Engineering. Following this Charles continued in Cambridge, researching the dynamic response of shallow foundations for his PhD which he completed in 2013 (
Taking up a position as a Research Associate at the end of 2013, Charles now works in the Schofield Centre, Cambridge where he assists students with their research and advises on physical modelling techniques. In addition he also undertakes research on behalf of industrial partners while working closely with them to assist in solving their design problems.
