Awarded CBE in this year's honours list
Prof Mair, who is also Master of Jesus College, is a world authority on tunnelling. He has been involved in the Jubilee Line extension for London Underground, and the Channel Tunnel rail link, as well as railway tunnel projects in a host of other European cities, including Amsterdam, Barcelona and Rome.
