Before coming to Cambridge, Mei graduated from Anhui University of Science and Technology and was awarded Bachelor in Civil Engineering in 2007. Afterwards she was chosen to master program study in Tongji University, where she participated in Key Project in the National Science & Technology Pillar Program, "Research on the Development of Engineering Technology for Urban Underground Space". She got Master's degree in 2010. In her postgraduate study, she has published four journal articles and one conference paper and was granted the software copyright.
She joined the Geotechnical Research Group at Cambridge University Engineering Department in October 2011 as a PhD research student. She is supervised by Dr Stuart Haigh and a member of Jesus College.
