Murat studied after the Abitur at the Städtisches Gymnasium am Wirteltor in Düren (North Rhine-Westphalia) Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Aircraft Engineering at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences in Germany. He was awarded the Diplom degree (Dipl.-Ing. (FH)) with grade 1.6 (ECTS-Grade: B – very good) in September 2004. He continued at the same University and secured an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering with grade 1.5 (ECTS-Grade: A – excellent) in Februar 2007. With the aid of funding through Festo Bildungsfonds and supervision of Professor Gopal Santana Phani Madabhushi, Murat was able to join the Geotechnical and Environmental Research Group at University of Cambridge in October 2011 as a PhD student. He is a member of Emmanuel College.
